Junior Information

We had some impressive results from our four athletes in the Devon County Championships at Exeter. The event also included the Devon Schools Championship.
Angus Harris was in good form winning the U15B Javelin with a pb of 38.80m and a third place in the Discus with a throw of 19.92m.

Bella May made her debut on the track at 3000m and produced an outstanding performance to win the gold medal. Her time of 11.13.32 was a new Club record.
She also ran the 200m heat straight after recording a time of 32.12.
Libby Kirby was in the same heat of the 200m as Bella just edging her out a new pb of 31.11. She also set a pb in 15.27s in the 100m and another pb in the 800m of 2.51.31.
Isabella Trowell won the 70m Hurdles in a good time of 13.21s and took a bronze medal in the 1500m with a time of 5.34.75. She was also 4th in the LJ with a leap of 3.61m.
We have only a few athletes in action on Wednesday at the open meeting in Tavistock which is a bit disappointing. We have been having a turnout of well over 40 at training but only a few have been taking part in any events. We are concerned about this as the main reason you train for athletics is to take part in competitions.
We do recognise the fact that many of our athletes are new and may not understand what taking part in a competition means.
We have decided therefore to have a Mini Competition this Thursday at training from 6 – 7.15pm.
It will consist of a Sprint, Throw, Long Jump and a Distance Run and a relay to finish. It will be a chance to show everyone what a competition is like and to hopefully encourage more to enter events. I will ask the College if parents can watch.
The next competitions taking place are the Exeter Open on 29th June, and the Devon Mile races at Exeter on 30th June plus the SW League on 4th July in Plymouth (U13 upwards).
We are also putting together junior relay teams for our own EVH relays on 23rd July. This is 2.5 mile run of teams of four and you must be over 11. Speak to Ruth if you keen to take part.
Please come and chat to us about taking part in these events.
