Junior Training and competition updates

Please note Erme Valley Harriers junior training on Thursday 28th October will be just one session due to the Half term holiday.
We will meet at 6pm until 7.15pm for this week only.

Normal sessions will resume the following week (i.e. 5.45 until 6.50 for the first session and 7.00 until 8.00 for the second session).

The club has its AGM on Tuesday 2nd November at the Rugby Club (7.30pm) and all parents are invited.
The agenda and details are on the clubs website.
It would be really good to get your views on how the club is running and will help you get a greater understanding of the role and aims of the club.

There is a buffet provided.

It would be great to see some of you there.

We have returned to two sessions for our junior training at ICC on a Thursday evening .
We are now meeting inside  the sports hall. Please enter and leave through the side door.
Here is a reminder of the times

Session 1 for under 11’s will start at 5.45pm and run until 6.50pm.
Session 2 for the older athletes will run from 7 – 8pm (please try to arrive in good time for a prompt start).

We had a great start to the Sportshall season  with the first of the league fixtures held at Dawlish Leisure Centre
We had 20 athletes there which is excellent but we will need more if we are to challenge for the top spot.
Results are on the Sportshall page here >>>
The next one is on Sunday 21st November in the Plymouth Life Centre. Save the date.

To recap the league fixtures have  events for U10’s up to U15’s. Athletes can do three events plus a relay and they are the events we have been doing in training recently. The club pays the entry fee so there is no charge for the athletes. We are not providing transport this year due to COVID but hopefully this will not be a problem.

We have made the timetable shorter this year which should make things much better for all of us. If you have any questions about the event please speak to Sharon or any of the coaches.
We are still looking for parents to help as team managers so if anyone can help with this please let us know.

Well done to all those juniors who took part in the Westward League Cross Country event last Sunday in Plymouth.
Everyone did extremely well and hopefully enjoyed the race even it might have been very hard work.
The club results are shown on the Cross Country page of our website here

The page also contains information on the future fixtures from the league.
The next one is at Newquay on Sunday 14th November

For those not familiar with age groups it is the age on August 31st 2021 for both cross country and Sportshall.

The club have always done really well in both the Sportshall League and the Westward League Cross Country and have always had support from our athletes and parents. We are aware that it may be new to you but we do ask that you support the competitions. Training is good but without taking part in competition there is no measure of success for the athlete or evidence that they are progressing.
Please make every effort to get your child to these events. I am sure you will enjoy it. Full details (including the timetable and list of dates) are shown on the relevant pages.

We will also need help at the events so if you can help in any way in officiating at Sportshall then let us know.

Sportshall returns and other highlights

The Devon Sportshall League made a welcome return on Sunday and we had 20 juniors there.
Most of our athletes are new to the competition and did extremely well. The team finished 2nd overall just 53 points behind leaders Plymouth.
We hope we can increase this number at the next fixture on Sunday 21st November in Plymouth.
