Storm Dennis didn’t beat everything

Whilst the planned Westward League fixture at Redruth fell victim to Storm Dennis the Bodmin Half Marathon did take place in horrible conditions.

We had five intrepid runners there

58th     David Engledew     1.48.54   1st V60
122nd   Alison Engledew   1.59.06  1st Female V60
172nd    Phil Adderley        2.07.33
207th    Lindsay Lane        2.15.16
218th    Richard Lane        2.18.28

On the previous Wednesday evening we had just two runners in the Armada 3K
Phil Adderley set a new pb in 21st place (13.52) and son Dan equaled his pb in 28th place.
Dan’s time was 15.51. Unfortunately there were just 43 runners.

Meanwhile our own Will Battershill smashed his personal best for the 3,000m on Saturday night in American to move to the top of the UK under-23 rankings. Will clocked 7:55.99 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, which also ranks him in the top five of the senior British rankings. It was also more than 10 seconds quicker than he had ever previously run for the distance in a competitive race. Will  who is studying at Harvard University, has enjoyed a great start to the year, breaking PBs in all three of his indoor outings in 2020.His 3,000m time on Saturday evening has put him third on Harvard’s all-time list. He already tops the all-time rankings for the 3,000m steeplechase.

February results

Although it was a quite weekend on the roads for the first weekend of February, our juniors were in Sportshall action in Plymouth.
We had a good turnout of athletes and managed to increase our overall lead over the following clubs. The next one is on 23rd February again in Plymouth.
Results are shown on the Sportshall page. This weekend is a definite tale of two different days. On Saturday in spring like weather Alison Thorn and Emma Lake took part in the Exeter Half Marathon. Ali was 40th and 1st FV45 in 1.26.27 and Emma 84th and 2nd Fv40 in 1.33.58.
April Oakshott was our only runner at the SW Schools in Bournemouth.
We were due to have more runners in the Sunday race but it has been cancelled along with the Mad Dog 10K in Southport where a number of our athletes have gone. The breakfast one in Devonport park was cancelled. IT is uncertain at this stage what other events have taken place.
This coming week is the Armada 3K on Wednesday and the Westward legaue Cross Country takes place next Sunday 16th in Redruth. WE have a minibus going levaing Ivybridge at 9am. We can pick up in Plympton. Just let us know if you need a place. Course map here >>>
